Nikki grew up in Trafford, Manchester. Nikki began playing piano from a young age, with her mum initially teaching her, before attending regular lessons with private teachers. Nikki attended Grammar School where she studied her Music GCSE (A*). During her teenage years Nikki worked her way up through the ABRSM Classical and Jazz Grades achieving Grade 8 Piano in 2007, at the age of 18..

Nikki developed a love of Jazz from watching her Dad play Double Bass at Jazz gigs and Jazz Festivals up and down the UK.

In 2006, having completed her A-Levels in English Literature, Film Studies and Music (AAB). Nikki attended music college where she undertook a year long Level 3 Award in Singing which she passed with Merit (Rockschool Vocal Artist).

In 2007 Nikki was accepted into the faculty of Arts at Glasgow University to undertake a Master of Arts degree. During her degree she studied Composition and The Aesthetics and Philosophy of Music, which interested her greatly and led to her choosing to write her dissertation on modern, avant-garde notation and The Aesthetics of Music. Upon graduating, Nikki remained in Glasgow and began to work as a community musician and an Instrumental Music Teacher. During this time she gained a wealth of experience in creating music with people who have Additional Support Needs. In Summer 2014, Nikki moved back to Manchester and began to work as a self-employed musician and music teacher. In 2016, Nikki and her Mum, Kristina, formed The Nikki Turner Jazz Quartet.

Nikki composes original music and has had the opportunity to perform her original music with Jazz band M6. In June 2018 Nikki had her debut working as a Musical Director with a production of ‘Made In Dagenham’. Nikki continued to work in musical theatre as a MD, and was musical director for an award winning production of Evita in May 2019. Later that year she was MD for Rent in October 2019.

Nikki’s students are at the heart of everything she does and she is always trying to find ways to give them more experience in the music industry, she has built a strong client base of one to one students for piano and voice, whilst also gigging and working on various recording projects. Nikki runs music theory groups, a student band and organises regular concerts for her students to perform in. This website features a student zone and a GCSE Music space for her private GCSE Music students.
